FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 18, 2019
Albert Gallatin Area School District officials have been receiving inquires form various media outlets regarding an unfortunate incident that occurred at a varsity football game on Friday, October 11, 2019.
During a home football game with the Hampshire High School of Romney, WV a physical altercation arose on the field at the conclusion of a play. The incident occurred during the fourth period with approximately four minutes of play remaining. A Hampshire player suffered physical injury that was apparently caused by an Albert Gallatin player after the refereeās whistle had blown.
Obviously, the School
District does not condone poor sportsmanship or intentional acts that cause
physical harm to a student. Because of student confidentiality laws, any
student disciplinary action that may have been taken or may be taken will not
be publicly disclosed. Any physical
altercation that may occur on school property, even if during an athletic
event, is fully investigated and appropriate action is taken. This incident is
no different.
The matter is being fully investigated by the Albert Gallatin Area School District and police authorities. An investigation was commenced immediately following the incident.
As the Albert Gallatin
student is a minor and because the Hampshire student was physically injured,
the Fayette County Juvenile Probation office has been contacted and will also
be involved.
The Albert Gallatin
School District has no further comments at this time. Any future inquiries should be directed to
School Superintendent, Christopher Pegg.
