Parents/Guardians & Members of the Educational Community
The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently released the Pennsylvania School Performance Profile. This public site provides an academic performance score for every public school in the Commonwealth.
This performance score serves several purposes:
· informs the public of school performance
· provides a building level score for educators as part of their evaluation system
· allows the public to compare schools across the state
· gives schools a methodology to analyze their strengths and needs
In the past, public schools received designations under No Child Left Behind (e.g., Warning, School Improvement, Corrective Action) that were based on a limited number of data points. The School Performance Profile ratings are more comprehensive in that they account for multiple measures of performance (e.g., test scores, progress in closing achievement gaps, degree of student growth over time).
School Performance Profile ratings also account for identifiers of high achieving schools such asrigorous course offerings, graduation, promotion, and attendance rates. Schools may earn extra points beyond the 100 point scoring system for advanced scores on the state, industry, and Advanced Placement Exams.
The score for a school is based upon indicators that define a high performing school. Many data elements contribute to the academic score. These elements are categorized into five areas:
  • Indicators of Academic Achievement (40%)*
  • Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap – All Students (5%)*
  • Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap – Historically Underperforming Students (5%)*
  • Indicators of Academic Growth / PVAAS (40%)
  • Other Academic Indicators (10%)
School may earn Extra Credit for Advanced Achievement (up to 7 points).
