A New Year at Masontown Elementary

A Letter From Mrs. Haught

Masontown Elementary School

Albert Gallatin Area School District

2017 – 2018

A little bit about us…

The vision for our school focuses on elevating student achievement in intellectual, emotional and social development areas. We celebrate diversity, embrace our community and make a conscious effort to involve families into the school environment. Cultivating partnerships between our community, families and school are the building blocks for greater educational opportunities within our school walls and beyond.

Families play a vital role in school success. We value two-way communication that supports student behavior and achievement in the school environment. Our Parent Teacher Organization’s work provides many different learning opportunities for both students and their families including field trips, movie nights and parent/student events. Our full-time social worker and part-time guidance counselor help students and families in a variety of ways both at home and at school. This school boasts classrooms for Kindergarten through grade five, Emotional Support, Life Skills Support, Autistic Support, Learning Support classrooms and a Sensory Room. In addition, we house a Pre-K Counts classroom and do transition activities with local Pre-K families throughout the year while building relationships with future Colonials and their families in our community.

New this year…

All AGASD elementary schools will begin using a new English Language Arts (ELA) program called, Journeys. The series aligns to the PA Common Core and PSSAs. Our district curriculum, classroom instruction and assessments must also coincide with the state’s standards of excellence to show growth and achieve success. Teachers face the challenge by working in teams to discuss, question and reflect about instructional practice and data collection based on student achievement and formative assessment results. A goal this year is establishing consistency between “what is evaluated” by the state (PSSA) and “what is being learned” by students.

We encourage you to embrace your child's education and every opportunity to become a part of it. I look forward to this year and being a part of the learning within the school and as an individual. Please accept this invitation to help us make this the best year yet for our students.
