DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

We, at A.L. Wilson Elementary, value student safety.

If a change in dismissal procedures for your child must occur, please send a note to school, with your child, in the morning detailing the dismissal procedures for that day.

If no note/phone call is received, students will follow their regular dismissal procedures.

Line-up for car pick-up cannot begin until 2:55 p.m.  Please adhere to this time and speed limits on school grounds.  Please remain in your vehicle at all times and there is to be NO SMOKING on school property.

We begin releasing students to cars at approximately 3:10 p.m.   If you sign your child out before 3:10 p.m., it will be marked as an early dismissal.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep all of our students safe.

EMERGENCY CONTACT FORMS

Should you have additional names to be added to your child’s contact information, please make the office aware immediately to avoid any inconvenience.  We need to be able to contact you especially in the event of an emergency.

As your information/contacts change, please make the office aware immediately.  It is of the greatest importance that we be able to contact the appropriate individuals for students when needed.

Custody Papers

A copy of all custody papers must be on file in the office.  For the safety of your child, please check with the office, as soon as possible, to make sure that we have all necessary papers.  Parents of an incoming student with specific custody arrangements must provide the office with this information immediately.  If there are no custody papers on file at school, please expect that the school will assume both parents have custody of children.

 * Custody papers not on file cannot be honored, please provide copies to the office.

Volunteers/Chaperones: Clearances Reminder

Please be reminded that all volunteers/chaperones must provide all 3 clearances prior to volunteering/chaperoning at their child’s school.  The forms should be submitted to your child's school office.  The three clearances include:

*Child Abuse  *Criminal History   *FBI Finger Prints

If you need any further information or the forms necessary to complete the above listed clearances, please contact your child's school.

Thank you in advance for your interest in volunteering/chaperoning and for submitting the required documentation.

BUS DISMISSAL

Please feel free to contact the school if you believe your child’s bus to be very late.

Also, bus dismissal begins at 3:20 p.m. here at ALW. However, not all buses arrive at the same time.  Bus dismissal actually occurs between the approximate times of 3:25 p.m. and 3:55 p.m.

Again, should you have any concerns regarding your child’s bus stop or arrival/dismissal times, please feel free to contact the school.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

We, at A.L. Wilson Elementary, value student safety.  Please be advised that we will have monthly fire drills and periodic evacuation/lock down/severe weather drills.  Administrators, teachers and AG Security will continue to review these procedures with students.

Also, AG security and PA State Police will be rotating through buildings, periodically, to ensure school and student safety.  Please do not be alarmed if your child comes home and states that either were in the building… They will be doing regular checks throughout the year.  Including parking lots for student drop-off in the morning and student dismissal at the end of the day.

If there are any emergencies, this information will be conveyed to you.

REMIND

This school year, we will be using REMIND for school-wide reminders.  Information regarding sign-up is enclosed in the Wednesday folder.  Please sign up, as information and reminders regarding school activities, etc. will be sent through REMIND.

It’s a great way to keep parents/guardians informed of school-wide happenings!

CALENDARS/NEWSLETTERS

A monthly calendar will be sent home detailing information, events, etc. for the month.  Please keep and refer to the calendar for helpful information.

My newsletter will be sent home periodically or as necessary to convey information to families.  Remember to sign up for REMIND, as it will be play an integral part of relaying information regarding school.

ELEMENTARY HANDBOOK

The Elementary handbook can be found on the Albert Gallatin School District Website.  Please review the handbook and call the school office if you have any questions.

MORNING DROP-OFF

If you are dropping your child off, in the mornings, drop-off begins at 8:00 a.m.  Staff members will be outside to receive your child and/or children.  If your child would like to eat breakfast, please make sure they are at school on or before 8:50 a.m.  Thank you

NEW SECURITY PROCEDURES

When students arrive at school, they will have their bag checked and walk through the metal detector. Please remember all students MUST have a clear or mesh book bag.  Please do not send scissors to school with students.  All classrooms have scissors for student use.

Late arrivals and early dismissals will occur with the security guard, at the security desk, in the entrance way.  You will be greeted by the security guard upon approaching the door. If the security guard is not present, when you ring the bell, you will be asked to wait for his/her return.  If you, or an approved individual, will be picking up your child, please have your I.D. readily available to present to security.

Furthermore, forgotten lunch boxes, snacks, notebooks and such will be dropped off with the security guard at the security desk.

VISITOR ENTRY

If you are visiting our school for a principal/teacher meeting, if you need to speak to someone in the office or are dropping off medicine with the nurse, you will be asked to walk through the metal detector.  The district is encouraging individuals to leave bags, purses, etc. in your locked car.  All bags brought into the building will be searched.

These procedures will also take place when visitors are entering the school for programs and events.  Please be reminded we are a NO tobacco grounds/facility and no weapons of any kind are permitted on school grounds.
