The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) takes extensive measures to ensure the security and validity of state assessment materials. If a student is caught photographing, copying or sharing any portion of the material contained on a PSSA or Keystone Exam, fines could result in up to $30,000 for a single violation.

The possession of cell phones, Apple watches, cameras, E-readers, Nooks, Kindles, iPods, tablets and any devices that have the capability to record or duplicate images is strictly prohibited during test administration. No recording device of any kind should be on the child when in the testing room. Test administrators are required to collect all such devices from students upon entry to a testing room and must store the devices securely until all test materials have been collected and returned to the school’s test coordinator.

All violations must be reported to PDE. Due to the extensive provision of prior notification on these test security rules, this type of violation constitutes a Level 3 offense in the Albert Gallatin Area School District—whether or not test material is compromised. Any student who is found to be in possession of a recording device during the administration of a state assessment faces a 4-10 day suspension due to insubordination, and fines will be presented to the offending student as dictated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Please assist us in making sure that all students understand the severity of the penalties involved. Thank you.
